Hand-Painted Floral Tumblers

This spring, I had a lovely opportunity to collaborate with a fellow local small business - Betty Boba.

Betty Boba is a Bay-Area based small business that makes beautiful plastic-free and reusable boba tumblers. And Here's a little story behind our collaboration.

I first met Betty at Hillsdale Mall last year in San Mateo (CA) where we were both vendors for a pop-up retail shop. I LOVED her tumblers and immediately purchased one for me and another for my daughter Serena. To confess, I'm a serious milk tea addict who drinks tea everyday. I often had difficulty enjoying my milk tea at home since the glasses I had weren't big enough. And I loved that Betty Boba tumbler was large enough (24 oz) to hold my home-made milk tea! It is not only an environmentally friendly alternative to the plastic boba cups, it also looks so pretty!

But the tumblers were not the only thing that I was drawn to. Betty was such a sweet and friendly human being, we immediately became good friends. We would hang out, chat about our small businesses and came up with an idea to collaborate! We decided to create a small collection of art pieces where I would showcase my floral collection using Betty's tumblers as a canvas.

I first hand painted the glass tumblers with several sample designs using non-toxic glass paint. With help from my Instagram followers (thank you!), we narrowed down to two designs - Painted Peony and California Wildflower!

I also figured out a way to set the paint permanently on the glass by baking and curing them in the oven. We are very pleased with the results! They are so beautiful to look at and will for sure lift up your mood every time you sip on your drinks.

Being an artist and a one-person small business owner feels lonely oftentimes, and this collaboration with Betty was like a bliss for me! It was such a precious experience to meet up with her in person, discuss ideas, take photos and bring this project to life together. I hope our joyful energy reflects on these tumblers and can add a ray of sunshine to your everyday!
